Advanced English class

Koh Samui Language School policy allows you to enroll in any course at any time. It gives you an opportunity to join a group of the appropriate level without having to wait for the beginning of the next course. Our teachers are real professionals and help new students adapt fast, so there is usually no problem about that.
However, you may find yourself in a group of students who are already half way through the book and you might realize that you are the only one in the class who can’t make head or tail of what is going on.

Our teachers have got a few tips which can be helpful for you to find your way about and catch up with the rest of the group easier.

Don’t Panic

The group might be in the middle of a topic, practicing the grammar and vocabulary they got familiar with in the previous lesson. If you feel lost and understand next to nothing, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you are in the wrong level group. The teacher will not be able to ignore all other students and focus on you personally, but don’t feel shy to ask for some extra help if you need it. And when a new topic is introduced, you might see that it is not that difficult after all.
If you do realize that you are much weaker (or stronger) than your group-mates, you can try and switch for another level.

Participate

Be open, don’t be shy to say a few words about yourself in the beginning of the class. Keep in mind that it is totally fine to make mistakes or misunderstand something. Relax, look around, there will definitely come an activity about which you will feel more confident. So, there is your chance to blend in, just go ahead and grab at it.

Do Self-Study

At the end of each book, you can find the summary and practice of what has been studied in class. Once you know which module the group is at, you can go to the corresponding pages, read the brief explanation of grammar rules and see the list of active vocabulary which the group has already learnt. The course is designed in such a way that the previously studied material is used and recycled in the following lessons, so, studying a bit on your own will help you to feel more at ease.

Ask Teacher

Should you have any questions that you can’t clarify on your own, feel free to ask your teacher during the break, before or after the class. Our teachers are always there for you and will be happy to help.

Catch-up Classes

If you feel desperate and understand that all the tips above are not working and you are still far behind the rest of the group, you might want to take a few one-to-one classes. It will cost you extra, but the teacher will be able to focus on your weaker points and, in a few sessions, will cover all the topics already studied by your group-mates, which will make your further studying much more efficient and enjoyable.

We hope that these tips will help you have a most wonderful learning experience in Koh Samui Language School. See you in the classroom!

Yearly MOE visit

Ministry of Education officials visited us at Koh Samui Language School (KSTVS) for our yearly inspection and quality control audit.

We discussed a number of things, such as the reasons for KSTVS continuous success over the years, recent innovations and upcoming projects. Here are a few key points of what we talked about:

School staff and material

We make a priority of hiring the best teachers we can, the material and text books we use in the classroom and the management we have (owner, principal and Thai manager) who work tirelessly to ensure our classes and programs are of the highest quality.

Keeping up with technology

We also talked about the use of modern technology in the classroom, including videos and audio for interactive lessons which we already include in our courses. We provide live online study one to one with a teacher, shared online material and group classes streamed on the internet, and one of our major goals is to develop in this field.

Business English and Exam preparation

We also discussed our vocational courses for hotels and business English, preparation for IELTS course and the appropriate application of work permits for our vocational school.

Not ready to rest

Our students can be assured that we work hard every year since we opened in 2003 to improve our standards. Although we are consistently awarded by the MOE for our performance, we will always try to improve more!

Dear students,

We are happy to announce that our school is getting back to our usual time table and all classes will be held as originally scheduled.

Please, check when your next class is to be there on the right day and time.

See you in the classroom!

Class Schedule Change

Attention, everybody!

Due to circumstances beyond our control, we have to change our time table starting from  6th August, 2018 until further notice. This is because of the requirements of the Ministry of Education. We are currently working on solving this issue and getting back to the schedule convenient for everybody.

Please, check when your next class is not to miss it. We remind you that regular attendance is obligatory for all students who have an ED visa.

Adult Classes

Progress tests are a part of every course and will take place every three months

A warm and homely atmosphere created by our teachers in the classroom, topped up with stunning beauty of a tropical island, makes learning foreign languages in Koh Samui so appealing.
There is nothing we take more seriously than providing our students with the highest quality education. Yet we understand that just sitting at a desk and staring at the textbook the whole class is a thing of yesterday, and all our teachers do their best to make their lessons feel more like a friends’ get-together rather than a tiring academic experience.

So why take a progress test?

The mere recollection of school or university tests and the prospect of taking another one here at KSTVS makes a lot of adult students flinch.

Number one piece of advice: don’t panic!

No one will give you bad marks or judge you if you make a mistake or don’t complete the test in time. Look at it from another angle – a progress test is an excellent opportunity for you to see your strongest points and see which aspects you should work on harder. Knowing where you are at learning a language gives you a sense of achievement and satisfaction.  It is also a perfect way to compare your current level with that of a few months ago – you might be surprised!

 Requirement of Immigration

In connection with the recent tightening of immigration rules, taking a progress test every three months is a necessary condition for the extension of your ED visa.
